DescriptionI really love these flashback origin pages and this one is exceptional as it has two superhero teams on it (the Avengers and the Defenders). It also captures the personal life of Bruce Banner succinctly, yet so poignantly. The incredible (no pun intended) bonus is that this also by that quintessential Hulk artist, Herb Trimpe. I am very grateful to Dino for this piece. He is not only a giant in our hobby but is also very friendly and easy to deal with. My impression at least is that he understands the collector in us and will always negotiate a fair price.Social/Sharing |

This page perfectly encapsulates The Hulk's associations with past super-teams as well as his love for not only Betty Ross, but also his love of scientific research. As you mention, it being illustrated by a quintessential Hulk artist makes it all the more special.

Many thanks, Rubén! I resisted long and hard but succumbed in the end - what's new? But it is a really nice page, with wonderful content and artwork.

So beautiful! Trimpe going through the years with Hulk and The Avengers and more! And you can see him giving us a touch of Kirby and Heck as well as his own style!

Many thanks, Nick! Yes, there seems to be a little of everything as you have very perceptively pointed out.

Many thanks, Rick! As I mentioned to Rubén, I tried my best to resist purchasing this piece but it was, as you say, such a great standalone page that I succumbed in the end.

It's huge recap page to set up the story for new and longtime readers. These 1983 annuals were still targeted for a wider audience of the newsstands. It's a standalone jumping on point for new readers and we don't mind seeing the story told again because we get some great artwork to look at.

Many thanks, Marcus! Very perceptive observation, as always. And I echo your sentiments absolutely!

Fantastic page with tons of cool origin story for the Hulk. Fun to see a simplified timeline of the Hulk's story in a single page. Enjoy seeing the Avengers and the Defenders on one page. Beautiful art by one of the Hulk's premiere artists, Herb Trimpe. Fantastic pick-up!

Many thanks, Bill! Yes, so much going on and yet not seeming busy at the same time. This isn't easy to achieve at all but Trimpe did a splendid job here.

Many thanks, Shelton! I wouldn't go as far as to say that Trimpe is definitely top - but he's definitely there and thereabouts!
