DescriptionThe late great Bill Everett was in fact the original artist for the Sub-Mariner when he was first featured during the Golden Age. This particular hero was later to take center stage in a number of key Marvel Titles - his famous battles against the Fantastic Four, not to mention that epic encounter with Daredevil (simultaneous with the introduction of DD in his red costume for the very first time in issue 7 of that particular title), come readily to mind. This particular piece is absolutely stunning even though (or perhaps especially because) it was done towards the end of Everett's career. The linework and detail are absolutely fantastic and even this detailed scan from the Heritage website does not do it justice. The amount of effort that Everett put into this particular piece is astonishing. It is wonderful to behold in person; it is - in a word - simply a truly beautiful piece of artwork. The price was way off the charts but, in my view, this is one of those truly unique pieces of artwork that justifies the price that it was ultimately sold for. It is certainly a keeper.Social/Sharing |

Spectacular indeed with Everett's clean lines and hyper-details like the wet KSWOOOSH graphic and ascending Dragon Man in the bottom panel to mesmerizing effect!

I had this page as my example to illustrate my "Wanted" list for Bill Everett Sub-Mariner interiors for years - it is a stunner, congratulations on adding this to your Everett collection which is very well curated!

From the lovely scales/chain mail of Sunfire's costume, to the scratch technique with the razor blade in panel two, over to the combination of slickness mixed with drybrush of the water in panel three, this page is just a textured dream for tactile collectors. A fabulous acquisition, my friend!

Many thanks, Bill! Yes indeed, which is why I went for this page even though it did end up costing a lot (unfortunately).

Many thanks, CJ. This was really expensive but it was such a great page that I went to the mat for it.

So much of this page harkens back to Bill's earliest work on Subby.
This page is a real treasure.
