Description

I am posting this on "Transformers Day," the day Hasbro has selected to honor the 40th anniversary of the launch of their franchise (even though the Marvel comic debuted months earlier.)

To celebrate, I am sharing a huge Transformers comic cover -- the DEATH OF OPTIMUS PRIME!

Just prior to this comic, Optimus Prime was killed off in the theatrical movie. He met his fate in a duel with his arch foe, Megatron.

The comic book soon after had the two foes clash, only this time in a virtual world. Prime and his Protectobots faced Megatron and his Combaticons, Prime would win the challenge, but in his victory, he compromised his principles and declared himself the loser. The penalty in this duel of honor -- death! Prime was destroyed and would not return --- for at least a year! :-P

This epic cover was done by the legendary Herb Trimpe. The white video lines were part of the artwork, no cheats were used.

It's Transformers Day and it's going to be a big Transformers week with the new movie that everyone is praising! Trimpe is one of the biggest names in Joe and TF G1 comics and many people will associate him first with their artwork. A great one on one Megatron vs Optimus cover!
