DescriptionJiggy reps a number of hugely talented artists and Jim is one of them. I want to digress a little and pay tribute to the obvious effort which Jiggy puts in for all his artists and it is very encouraging seeing the original comic art community respond in turn by showing its support for them. That having been said, this community has been richly blessed by being able to obtain wonderful artwork from these extremely talented artists. Long may this symbiotic relationship continue and we wish Jiggy and his artists all the very best for their coming future.Turning to this particular piece, I must confess to being an avid LOTR fan. However, that being the case, it is not often that a piece of LOTR artwork leaps out at me the way this piece did. It captures that pivotal battle scene between Gandalf and the Balrog. Jim's combination of composition, artwork and color really comes through in stunning style in this piece of artwork. If this is any indication of what is to come in the future, it promises to be a very exciting time indeed. Social/Sharing |

I didn't realize Balrog had wings. Great angle there.

"You shall not pass!" One of my favorite movie scenes. Love the way it's depicted here. And the bits of content extending into the white space are a cool touch. Really impressive piece!

Many thanks, Brian! The overall perspective is really impressive and the overall colors do add to the overall mood as well as context of the piece.

Many thanks, Paul! OT, but you have some lovely and brilliant posts recently to your own Gallery. I especially like the Buscema Spidey pin-up which was very atmospheric.

While I have never read the stories, the film trilogy is one of my all-time favourites, each film of which I've watched multiple times over. This is a wonderful depiction of both characters in battle and I feel compelled to tell you that my favourite part about the composition as a whole, is that he extended the drawing past the border and too the edges on three sides, yet left that runoff uncolored. It looks wonderful and I'm glad to know you're a LoTR fan, CAB!

Many thanks, Rubén! The film trilogy is also one of my all-time favourites and I, too, never tire of wathching them. The three volumes themselves are harder going! I like, too, that you abbreviated it as "LoTR" instead of "LOTR" because my elder daughter (who has read the book several times really dislikes the latter abbreviation! Perhaps I will run your abbreviation by her instead!). And I am totally with you about the drawing past the border - it actually makes the piece even better!

Pivotal moment in the series! Gandalf's noble sacrifice was required or everything would have been for naught. Jimenez drops the color for the parts extending out of the frame makes you realize that this illustration belongs in a book to accompany the scene. A great pickup from the drop!

Another great piece by Jim. It's stunning. And Jiggy is great to work with. My Zombie illustration would not have been possible without him.
