DescriptionAcquisition of this Marshall Rogers Detective Comics page is definitely a grail moment for me. I can still remember, over 35 years ago, buying this particular issue off a spinner rack in a grocery store. After reading the book, I was absolutely blown away by both story and art! Up to this point, I had never been exposed to Marshall Rogers’ work. For me, it was like a breath of fresh air which constantly kept me intrigued and only wanting more. Furthermore, it was greatly enhanced by a spellbinding story beautifully orchestrated by Steve Englehart. In this case, artist and writer were meshed perfectly together to create one of the most memorable storylines to ever appear in Detective Comics. And Terry Austin’s inks over Roger’s pencils? What can I possibly say…but pure magic! For many years, I have wanted a really nice ‘70s Marshall Rogers Detective Comics page to add to my comic art collection. I already had a couple of pages from issue 472, but none with images of Batman. When I saw that this page was for sale, I just about freaked out! It has to be one of my favorite pages from this awesome series with an absolute killer bottom panel. Rogers was a master of design…not to mention an expert in architecture. And this scene of Batman on the roof…with the over exaggerated flowing cape…is indeed an iconic image, representing Rogers’ definitive rendition of the Dark Knight as only he could see him. At any rate…I am so ecstatic to finally own this wonderful piece of comic history. Thank you, Mark…for making this possible. Social/Sharing |

Very nice, Marshall Rogers like Neal Adams before him. Made Batman hreat once again & back to his roots. Still can't believe he's been gone a few years already. He left us way too soon. Like many others over the last 7 years. Congrads on getting this grail page.

Great page! Has that vintage feel from Batman #1 to it - where this story originally appeared by Bob Kane and Bill Finger.
