DescriptionThose of you who know me and/or have been following my collection over the years will know that the Two-Gun Kid is a great favorite of mine. Indeed, I have a special gallery of sketches devoted just to him. He was perhaps the first Western superhero in the Marvel universe as Stan Lee and Jack Kirby rebooted the title and Matt Hawk took on the mantle of being the second Two-Gun Kid – this time with a mask and secret identity. All the drama which Stan introduced in relation to his superheroes was present in this title as well – including close friends, foes, and romance, amongst other things.I was therefore very happy to be able to obtain what is probably the definitive Two-Gun Kid pin-up by Dick Ayers and Sol Brodsky from Two-Gun Kid #73. Next to my grail Two-Gun Kid page, I thought that this would be next most important one. The pin-up page posted here, however, is of at least equal importance to that pin-up page. It is from Two-Gun Kid #61, the second issue after the said reboot. It is a unique page in many ways as it isn’t a traditional action page; neither is it a conventional pin-up page. It features a meticulous step-by-step account as to how Matt Hawk rapidly changes into his “costume” and becomes the Two-Gun Kid in just four short seconds. It is a standalone pin-up page drawn by Jack Kirby and inked by Dick Ayers. My grateful thanks to Glen Gold for parting with this page; he knows that it has gone to a good home. On an altogether unrelated note, I hope to post my grail page in this series one day. However, it would require a much lengthier write-up than even the CAF word limit permits. In the meantime, however, I am glad to post this page which, alongside the pin-up page from issue 73, is definitely a centrepiece in my Two-Gun Kid collection. Social/Sharing |

Great to see this page at home in the collection that loves it. Your excellent write-up reminds me of my at-times altruistic doctrine that certain art belongs in certain collections!

Many thanks, Sean! Yes, I am so very grateful to Glen for letting this piece of artwork go to me as he knew how much it meant to me. OT, but your collection of original comic art in general and gorgeous Black Widow artwork in particular is simply amazing.

Man, that Two-Gun kid is a real softy. Soft hat and boots indeed. Speed change and ease of hiding them. Pull the other one. He's a delicate type.

Guess tying a bow tie even back then was a dying art. Very nice costume deconstruction and detailed notes. This is along the lines of the Batcave breakdown. Nice pickup, your collection never ceases to amaze.

I'm having trouble formulating my thoughts because the very first thing that stood out to me upon laying eyes on the thumbnail and before clicking on it, is that I thought this was an Alex Toth piece! Not just in artistic style, but even in how the page is laid out and how the infomration is laid out in numbered bullet point form. Regardless, I love it and think it's a very special piece to put into your collection, my friend!

Many thanks, Rubén! That is an excellent observation indeed. Your knowledge is encylopedic! It is a very special piece and quite innovative for its time in both content as well as aesthetics.
