DescriptionG.I. Joe: A Real American Hero # 182September 2012 Page 6 Ink over pencils on comic art board Pencils: Ron Frenz (Signed bottom center) Inks: Sal Buscema Writer: Larry Hama (Signed lower right) Darklon is on the loose! G.I. Joe has lost their prisoner, and it’s up to Outback, Ambush, and Muskrat to recover the dangerous villain. Meanwhile, Zarana and Road Pig strike up a deal with Pale Peony as Cobra Commander and Zartan make a deal of their own to try to rebuild Cobra. Zartan offers to take charge of the mission to bring the lost sheep back into the fold by moving Cobra HQ to another coast The villains take center stage in this issue of G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero written by Larry Hama. This is one of the most interesting parts of the issue. So Zartan wants official Cobra status and is going to attempt to bring some of the lost Cobra sheep back into the fold. Very interesting. If he succeeds in recruiting Pale Peony, she would make one heck of a Cobra operative. But Destro and Baroness? I don't know - I like their separate Iron Grenadier status quite a bit. We'll have to see where this goes. Near The PIT, Outback, Ambush and Muskrat, check out maps of the area and devise which way would be the most likely route that Darklon would use to escape. They do not know that Darklon is right underneath them clinging to the Hammer. Their discussion has just tipped him off to the route not to take. The Joes set out to find Darklon and as they leave he rolls out from underneath the Hammer. Spirit, atop a tower back at the Pit watches through binoculars, he reports to Duke that Darklon is on the move again. Darklon is quite aware he is being allowed to escape. He finds the weapons cache placed there in advance by his troops and arms himself with a Dragunov sniper rifle. While in a railroad yard, Cobra Commander watches as vehicles and personnel are all loaded up into a convoy. Zartan approaches him with a deal. Zartan will gather back all the head operatives of Cobra and rebuild the command structure. His only price is to be a full member of Cobra, no longer a hired mercenary. In San Diego, Pale Peony has allowed Road Pig and Zarana to tie her up and be hung from the ceiling. She proves her skills by not only freeing herself but knocking out the pair of Dreadnoks. She wants to propose a deal. Back in Utah the three Joes dive for cover when they realize that Darklon is being tracked by Duke and he did not tell them. In Castle Darklon; Darklon’s troops let Darklon know the coordinates of the Joes. Darklon plans to go after them. Elsewhere in the USA, Clutch and Rock ‘N Roll follow a SUV with four Fred series Crimson Guardsman. The SUV is serving as the rear guard for the convoy. The guards spot the Joes and a firefight takes place on the road, ending with the destruction of the SUV. In The PIT, Duke, Scarlett and Mainframe watch the situation in the desert as Darklon takes up a sniper’s position. Roadblock joins them and they weigh the merits of this. The information found in Darklon’s helmet is so secret only Mainframe and Duke know, and they won’t tell Scarlett. Outback approaches a perch draped with camo net. The scene turns out to be a decoy. Outback tosses a flare into the night sky and it lights up the situation of Darklon getting the drop on Muskrat. Muskrat looks back helplessly as Darklon trains the Dragunov on Muskrat. Suddenly the rifle explodes in his arms. Darklon turns and runs. Since he is unarmed the Joes must follow the rules of engagement and cannot fire on him. Muskrat thanks Outback but Outback says it was not he who took the shot. Lowlight makes his appearance known at that point. Duke had sent him out to cover the trio. Darklon finds his hidden Evader and drives to a rendezvous point where a Python Conquest is waiting. The soldiers back in Castle Darklon give him the all clear, no tracking devices detected. In San Diego, Pale Peony, Road Pig, and Zarana are sitting down having some fruit drinks. Pale Peony, now in charge, tells them of her plan to bring them back into Cobra and take it over from within, a stealth merger of sorts. Social/Sharing |
