Description

One of my very favorite moments from the Geoff Johns GL run rendered here exquisitely by the awesome Doug Mahnke. GL, starting with the Sinestro Corps War, was the first DC book I read with any regularity and a lot of that has to do with Doug Mahnke’s contribution, particularly the earlier part of his run. Doug and inker Christian Alamy have definitely been a dynamic duo on the title. I’ve got another page in my gallery from their first GL issue.

Here you’ve got Sinestro laying the proverbial smackdown on an uppity Mongul, who’s attempting a coup of Sinestro’s corps. Mongul goes through a whole diatribe about why he’s the more deserving leader and Sinestro eventually just tells (and shows!) him what’s up. Sinestro’s the character I’ve enjoyed most during the Johns GL run, and this DPS is one of the reasons. He reminds me of Doctor Doom – intelligent, sarcastic, menacing, composed, and of course, conceited. The Sinestro Corps is the only corps that uses an individual as its namesake! IGN also published an article in May 2013 (http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/05/28/top-10-moments-from-geoff-johns-green-lantern-run) ranking this moment as #8 of the top 10 GL moments from the Geoff Johns run.

Got Doug’s dealer’s info from a fellow CAFer (another reason I appreciate this site!), sent him some particular requests and he ended up still having this one so I scooped it up quickly. Thanks all involved in this acquisition – I’ll value it.

Last thing – please let me know if anyone out there has and may be willing to sell the page after this one. That would cap this off nicely. Thanks!

This is also one of my favorite moments from the whole incredible Johns' storyline that made GL the best comic to read for several years running! Reading Sinestro was maybe more interesting than anything else in those issues and this incredible page had been a looong time coming! You sir, have an impossibly cool page by a fantastic artist!

The Johns/Mahnke run was awesome, and I agree, a lot of that was due to their portrayal of Sinestro. Thanks for the comment, Jason!

Sinestro regaining control of his corps from Mongul was an interesting story! Congratulations for having the "shocking" DPS of Sinestro knocking out the mighty Mongul!

Mahnke's lines look so slick when Alamy inks him! This is a tremendous example of their synergy!
