Description

�� Romain Hugault is the creator and artist of Final Flight and Pin-Up Wings, two English language books from the French publisher Paquest. He was signing at my brother's Stuart Ng Books booth and this drawing was done in my copy of Final Flight as European artists often do. This sketch is of a Japanese fighter pilot from The Cherry Blossom chapter of Final Flight. I just let Romain draw what he wished, but I saw a few people ask for planes. Romain was able to draw them from memory and was doing a fabulous job. The next day, I bought another book and asked for a Grumman F6F Hellcat since our father Horace was in the US Navy at NAS Alameda during World War II and worked on Hellcats and Grumman Avengers. Romain drew a great Lockheed P-38 for Stuart. While I was hanging around the booth, Bill Presing, artist for Rex Steele and Belle du jour, came to see Romain and compare notes about drawing planes and girls. The book has been on my shelf and I realized I failed to scan it. Romain's latest English language work is The Grand Duke published in May 2012 by Archaia.
