Description

Veilmist by Derec Donovan

Veilmist was another short-lived member of the Legion of Super-Heroes from the "Five Year Later" timeline. She had the ability to teleport herself and others. She was forced upon the team along with Blood Claw, Flederweb and Firefist as a result of an alliance between the United Planets and the Khund Empire. Veilmist was not an evil person, but she was VERY manipulative. Khund women have no power on their planet, and their only real purpose is for breeding. But a Khundish law states that whenever a male kills another male, he inherits the deceased's wife. Veilmist took advantage of this law, using her beauty and charm to move up in the social ranks until she was married to Firefist, a military hero and cyborg warrior. While Veilmist was with the Legion, she tried to seduce Ultra Boy and manipulate him into killing Firefist so that she could leave the Khund Empire altogether. Anyway, she almost escaped her marriage to Firefist when he was seemingly killed by Devlin O'Ryan, but ultimately Firefist was restored/repaired, and eventually he killed Veilmist for her next attempted betrayal. I wish that she had stayed around longer, as I think the character had a lot of potential and I'd have liked to seen where they went with her after she had no need to seek another new husband. So yes, Veilmist may have had a short, sad story, but Derec made her happy here, and I really love it. I also like the action pose and, as usual, the space background. Hats off to Derec once again!
