24x35 Oil on Canvas

Met Steve at Illuxcon 6 and pursued a commission....knowing I was building a Tolkien art collection, Steve expressed a desire to revisit Smaug / The Invisible Thief, the most popular of his Tolkien pieces painted for a handful of Christopher (Tolkien) Enterprises posters back in the 1970s.

That 1970s painting appears in Greg Obaugh's collection here on CAF (and hopefully mine some day!). 40 years later....not only can the man still paint, IMO he is in his prime!

That's an unbelievable Smaug. Made doubly awesome by the fact that the same artist did the cover to Adventurers #8, which is another just terrific painting of a similar (but different) theme.

I collect mostly panel pages, and, though I have a giant monster or two in the collection, a "good dragon" of classic stature is something I think it could well use (though I find it doubtful I could ever acquire one as nice as this).
