Description

This is so sad. As is shown by the pictures below, Amanda Connor and "Steve" gave this to "John and Daria" as a wedding present. It was in a cheapo frame with a matt lovingly decorated by little hand-drawn hearts and the like. According to the seller, it was found "in a Salvation Army store in Pasadena Maryland mixed in with all the junk." Plus, I think almost every Amanda Connor fan knows that she is now married to a notable guy named Jimmy. I imagine a struggling couple putting together such a thoughtful gift only to have things turn out as they did. It breaks my heart.

My wife is a big Amanda Connor fan and this looked like just the ticket. It's right down my alley as well and went for a fraction of what I expected (but tons more than the seller no doubt paid the Salvation Army). I guess the typical OA collector isn't into Barbie, regardless of who drew it. You can really tell when a first class artist does a piece like this.

Yes a t-shirt wedding gown works just fine if you are built like Barbie (either the slender version shown here or the bustier doll version) and you don't mind people thinking it's the 70's.

Cool piece and interesting background. It is a shame the piece was treated with such disrespect the recipients but it is good that it has found a new home. It looks much better out of the frame. On a bit of an off topic note, there is some irony in this piece and its circumstance. One could argue that Barbie had done so much damage to the North American psyche and has probably played a role in increase consumerism/debt and some role in higher divorce rates. The irony of this being given as a wedding gift for a presumably failed marriage isn't lost on me.
