Description

This is the #1 clichéd gothic romance cover, possibly he #1 most clichéd cover of all time, a beautiful woman in the dark running or walking away from a house in the distance while she looks back at it. In fact, it's possible that no book counts as a gothic romance unless it has that cover. My wife is a fan of these though she stopped reading them before I met her.

In this case, the woman is running in the rain, wearing late 1860's clothes suitable to a widow. My wife says that no respectable woman of the era would wear her hair like that (maybe it fell from its pins as she was running) furthermore, hair that luscious and lustrous neither occurs in nature and is not achievable using 19th century technology. Not to mention that it's waterproof.

The actual painting is a huge 24" by 37", a bit less blue than this. I corrected the coloring to get the face right. It is from The Widowed Bride of Raven Oaks by Peggy Darty, art by Uldis Klavins.
