DescriptionA key turning point in the series: Shang-Chi gets to meet with Clive Reston, who candidly admits his James Bond affiliation! At that precise moment, Master of Kung-Fu ceases to be only a Martial Arts yarn to gain that extra Spy stuff dimension that gave it all its grandeur. (Don't want to start a controversy, there, but in my opinion, Moench and Gulacy were the only ones to succeed in that mix, far better than ANY movie I can think of... Stand up and be counted "Enter the dragon" or "The man with the golden gun", to name just two...) And, of course, Gulacy reigns supreme here, with the great shadow-ladden portraits and the crazy angles: that's quite a page! (Don't want to start a - second - controversy here, folks, but in my opinion, Vince Colletta's inks on this page are truly great!) Social/Sharing |

I don't want to start a controversy either, but Coletta is unfairly maligned as an inker. Yes, he phoned a lot of work in (or, as legend has it, farmed it out), but when he cared, his work could be fantastic. And it looks like he was in a caring mood on this page. To my mind (and to Gulacy's as well--he said do to me), Adkins was the best MOKF inker, but each inker for the most part brought something to the table. And: great page!

I never had the opporturnity to chat with Paul Gulacy (lucky you!), but being aware of the connection between Dan Adkins and him, I have no problem believing he was his favourite inker! I also agree with you on Vince Coletta: I've now seen enough of his inking work on a lot of artists to ascertain that he could be just great, maybe when he was given time...
