DescriptionFor all you Supergirl collectors and enthusiasts, this is a REAL GEM! Original artwork for Crisis on Infinite Earths (Vol. 1) #4 page 2 (DC - July, 1985) by fan favorite George Pérez (pencils) and Mike DeCarlo (inks).Without any doubt, this piece of artwork ranks as one of the very best pages of the entire saga with absolutely superb images of the original Supergirl (Kara Zor-El), engaging in deep reflective conversation with Batgirl (Barbara Gordon) - and what a wonderful close-up of "Babs" to boot. As we all know, Supergirl would soon offer up her life in an act of ultimate self-sacrifice (issue #7), while saving her cousin Superman from certain death as she engaged the cosmic death dealer, the Anti-Monitor in brutal melee, perishing in the process (never turn your head from your enemy in battle). A tragic, tear-jerking outcome that is considered one of the most moving and emotional events in the history of comic books! Because of this, and the fact that there just are not that many Supergirl pages in the saga, any page featuring this Kryptonian Heroine is highly prized and sought-after, especially one with such great images of her. In this intriguing encounter, Kara consoles Barbara, who is in a melancholy state of hopelessness, "awaiting the end." Kara encourages her depressed friend, stating the maxim that one does not have to possess super powers to be a hero. Even the eventual death of the Flash (Barry Allen in issue #8) is foreshadowed by Supergirl's dialogue in panel 5. Crisis on Infinite Earths ranks as one of the most significant and successful series ever published by DC - an EPIC SAGA in every respect! This massive undertaking was the product of two seasoned creators, Marv Wolfman (writer) and George Pérez (pencil art). The initial sales success of the maxi-series as well as the overwhelmingly enthusiastic response of collectors and critics alike, and even more importantly, the long lasting impact and inspiration of this series upon countless readers is a enduring testament to the quality and importance of the work - in short, a true masterpiece of the medium. Special thanks to Ken for offering me the piece. Social/Sharing |
