Description

Ink, felt tip pen, watercolor, color markers on paper (in 8 x 11.3 / cm 20.3 x 28.8).

Robert Gigi (1926-2007) was a French illustrator and comic strip artist. Although undeniably talented he was outshone for most of his career by Barbarella creator Jean-Claude Forest. From the late 1960s thru the late 1970s Gigi authored several graphic novels featuring Scarlett Dream, a sexy (and admittedly very Barbarella-like) SF adventuress whose visual appeal was unfortunately not sufficient to make up for the painfully uninspired scripts of his co-author Claude Moliterni.

This is the original art to the over of the Summer 1968 issue of V-Magazine, an Esquire-like quarterly in which both Barbarella and Scarlett Dream were serialized.

Need I add that the piece is splendid despite the invasive glue stains?
