Description

Wow, I actually own an Alex Raymond original. I didn't even discover the man's work until about 2006, having never read any of the adventure comic strips that came before my time. My first exposure to Raymond's art was when I picked up a copy of the Flash Gordon reprints by Checker as a gift for someone else. While thumbing through the book I was blown away by Raymond's talent and set out to discover more about the artist as well as his contemporaries.

This of course led to Rip Kirby, which I found to be very charming despite being in a completely different genre than Flash Gordon. Now I'm extremely pleased to say that I own - what I consider to be - a fine example of not only the Rip Kirby comic strip, but a fine example of Raymond's fantastic art.

There are worse things than obsessively collecting such prime dailies as this! What a nice example with that opening portrait of the principle and the inks on this are super clean! Raymond had such a great hand

So, I was clicking through your featured gallery pieces of modern superhero art and discovered that one of these things was not like the others. It's always a pleasant surprise to find an Alex Raymond strip tucked away in a CAF collection. Cheers!
