THE WORLD'S MOST MYSTERIOUS WESTERN HERO!

Awesome large art, 3-panel page featuring the Western GHOST RIDER (Carter Slade), who battled evil in a phosphorescent white costume, complete with a full-face mask, cape, and the requisite white hat. Slade received his outfit and his white horse from Flaming Star, a Native American medicine man. This page is from the 1967 story: "The Macabre Menace of the Tarantula."

The Old West Ghost Rider was created by Roy Thomas, Gary Friedrich and Dick Ayers.

The character's name was changed to The Phantom Rider following the introduction of Marvel's popular motorcycle riding character, Ghost Rider Johnny Blaze, who debuted in 1972's Marvel Spotlight #5.
