DescriptionJohn Severin Cracked Magazine "Big-John is Coming" Pages 1-2 Original Art (Major Magazines, 1960s). How sweet it is! Publisher Bob Sproul was a friend of Jackie Gleason. In fact, artist John Severin has even stated that the Cracked magazine mascot, Sylvester P. Smythe, was based on a recurring character from one of Gleason's old TV shows. That relationship allows Sproul to get permission to have John Severin illustrate a Gleason joke in this story. As a further joke, Severin signed it "Severin & LePoer", the latter name being Severin's own pseudonym. This group contains two pages of the story. The work is ink on Bristol, the image areas measure 10.75" x 14.5". The pages are tanned with glue residue in the text paste-up. Overall the art is in Very Good condition.
