DescriptionI have to say that this cover makes me a little uncomfortable. It is a long way away from the simplicity & innocence of the Legion's Silver Age era but it was tailor made for this story-line.John did a great job on this. The idea of them making out at poor Lana (Insect Queen) Lang's grave is gross but it shows how far down the crazy rabbit hole we have come. On one level, this is unrelated to comic art but so very freaky and coincidental that I had to share it. I am a native of Ireland and a history student & the very week we settled on this cover, there was a story released that Maud Gonne ( think of her as Ireland's Joan Of Arc type figure )who was the muse of the celebrated Nobel prize winning poet W.B. Yeats, in an effort to reincarnate the spirit of her dead son made love to the father on the child's grave. http://www.independent.ie/irish-news/irish-heroine-maud-gonne-had-sex-at-her-childs-grave-30954369.html It grossed me out but helped put this in context. When we grieve, we are desperate & vunerable and Duo is exploiting all of that to the hilt to get what she wants. The quote that we used on the cover, is part of the epitah that WB Yeats had ordered to be inscribed on his own tombstone. Duo is casting a cold hard eye over everything. She had her sights set on Superboy for a long time but be careful what you wish for. Again, thanks to John & Russ. I love the small creepy details, like her holding a tattered hair ribbon a la Insect Queen. More twists and turns to come, Enjoy Aidan Social/Sharing |

This is an incredible piece: that it makes us uncomfortable shows how powerful it is. I think the most disturbing element to me is Superboy's facial expression and darkened eyes. Chilling.

Chilling. You are so right..her actions are calculated, cold and unflinchingly hard as the very gravestone itself. The fact that there was an original coverlike thisout there to draw upon, shows just how dark and gritty comics turned in the 90's

I know Superboy & the Legion will prevail and put things right (they will, won't they!?!), but it looks to be a very rough road until they do. Can't wait for next weeks installment!

Yes, uncomfortable, but as you said, really shows where things have sunk. Can't wait to see how (if?) they get back to the light.

And while Lu's tragic Legion history has made her vunerable to the Trapper and was her undoing, one small forgotten character from her past, might just be her salvation.

I'm really enjoying this trip through the darkside! This is an emotional piece for sure! Props again for including the colored version, as dark as that is too! Well done!

I eagerly look forward to each new Friday commission.
Not only for the art but also the storyline as twisted as it might be and it is as you say certainly going down the rabbit hole. p Interesting story about Yeats, I love the way you incorporated that tale and quote into the ongoing saga.
Speaking of innocence, Duo Damsel certainly would never have worn her current apparel in the Silver Age.
Once again great art by John, he certainly is "cowboying up" for this project. The other amazing thing is every Friday comes and we have a new work, talk about hitting your deadlines!

That era of Irish history has always fascinated me so when it dovetailed with Legion, I could not resist the temptation. We are hitting our deadlines but the last few will be tight, not because John is slow but we have changed the sequence and choices of covers several times to accurately reflect how we want this to all come together. This series has been a huge challenge that has stretched John, Russ and myself in ways that we never imagined,

Another great installment in this chapter serial via comic covers. I'm telling you John Watson is doing some wonderful imagery on these. He's really gotten good.
