DescriptionStill another great Bob Brown page from his penultimate issue on his favourite comic series of mine: The Challengers of the Unknown! As the Challs were facing darker and (potentially) more dangerous threats, Bob Brown really raised to the challenge (Oops...) and produced some of his absolute best art ever! I just have to suppose he had too many assignments at the time to be able to keep the tempo, so he had to give up his longest-running strip after only one more issue and go to grander things at DC, then at Marvel... But that was also the signal for the merciless decline of the series: storylines dwindling up to nowhere, never living up to their potential, while a rotating cast of artists (no slouch, mind you: Sparling, Tuska, Dillin and even Adams, not forgetting some gorgeous Kubert covers...) did their best, but to no avail... Maybe, as the 70's were dawning, the Challengers had run out of their borrowed time and faced the one threat they could not overcome: cancellation! Social/Sharing |
