Description

I have had a few Eisner pages pass through my collection. It has been at least 7 or 8 years since I owned a page and it always felt like I needed one to fill in this nook. I wanted it to be the right page and this is it. This one is staying. Everything I could want in a Spirit page, crossbows, action, girls, humor, the Spirit in full costume and kiss from a pretty girl.

This is from a story from 1951 entitled "Wanchu". It is a fun story taking place as the Spirit is abroad and finds himself in the middle of a conflict around a small citadel under siege.

Some information from a friend. This page had Jim Dixon assisting on inks and Klaus Nordling assisting on pencils. Still an Eisner pencilled and inked page but other hands at work here too. Other information suggests that when Eisner was using assistants they would only work on non key pages and panels without the Spirit on them. I think all of this is more of an interesting footnote and a peek into how these comic were created and does not detract in anyway from what this page is which is Great!(said like Tony the Tiger)

Regardless of Nordling's and/or Dixon's contribution (or lack thereof) to this page, it is a superb piece of Spirit artwork!

The Spirit in virtually every panel is special. The additional fact that this is near the end of the tub for Spirit is another bonus. Eisner is a master of the 8 page Sunday. Congrats on a classic page.
