DescriptionClassic original art page from the Amazing Spider-Man #156, published by Marvel Comics in May of 1976. This is Pg. 14 from the classic issue featuring the milestone wedding between Ned Leeds and Betty Brant, 2 of the most important characters in the history of the Spiderman mythos. Betty Brant was one of the earliest recurring characters in the Spiderman universe, first appearing in Amazing Spiderman #4, and Ned Leeds is of course well-known for his part in the saga of the Hobgoblin, one of the greatest Spiderman villains ever. The artwork is by legendary Spidey artists Ross Andru and Mike Esposito, and this great page features one of the most memorable images from a key Spidey issue! Vintage pages from the main ASM title are getting tougher and tougher to find, especially quality examples from the 1970's. And Andru's art has only grown in demand. He is very well-known for classic work throughout the 1960’s, 1970’s, and 1980’s, having done Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, War titles, and others at DC, and the Amazing Spiderman, X-Men, and other titles at Marvel. But for many collectors, his 70's ASM pages are the greatest and most desirable work of his long and distinguished career. And Esposito is likewise well-known to Spidey fans, for having worked on so many classic Spidey issues over the years. He was also known for awhile as "Mickey Demeo", notably when he inked John Romita Sr. on ASM in the 1960's. The page has about a 2" yellow stain on the back side of the page, which bleeds through very slightly to the front, but is mostly only noticeable on the back. The page displays very nicely, and this is an outstanding and memorable page by this great team of legendary Spiderman artists. The page features the largest single panel image of the wedding from the entire issue, matched only by the cover. It is a perfect straight-on "face the camera" iconic image of Ned and Betty flanked on each side by Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson, with honored guests from the Spideyverse, including Aunt May and J. Jonah Jameson seated behind. "No Bride Has Ever Looked Lovelier", indeed. It is a classic example from a key issue. It goes without saying that 1970's Bronze Age Spiderman pages are highly sought-after, particularly from the main Amazing Spiderman title, and vintage historic key pages even more so. To get a piece from the 70's of this quality is difficult, as they rarely appear on the open market, and with Spiderman being so heavily collected, once pieces go into collections they do not come out again. This is an exceptional and unbelievably rare piece of 1970's artwork, that would look amazing framed and prominently displayed, and would be a true key piece in any collection. Social/Sharing |
