Description

Rowena Morrill, Retief og the CDT Paperback Cover Preliminary (Berkley, 1980).

Pencil preliminary cover for Keith Laumer's fantasy novel.

Perhaps one of Morrill's most famous covers ever, not just because of the intentional paperback use but what followed later.

The painting was later discovered in the bedroom-bunker of Saddam Hussein's secret love nest in Baghdad. The US army discovered several Morrill paintings in the building, among others "Shadows Out Of Hell" that I also own the prelim to.

Both are not currently on display in MY bedroom.
