DescriptionThe Fox and the Hound Tod and Copper Production Cel Setup (Walt Disney, 1981). A hand-painted production cel setup of Tod and Copper in their younger days, when they first meet. Nice images of 3" and 4" in beautiful detail. The laminated 2 cel setup is placed on a preliminary production background not used in the film, attributed to James Coleman. Gouache on 3-peghole board of approximately 12" x 16". No production numbers or markings on the background. In Fine condition. There were a number of animators that worked on this film that may have had a hand in this sequence. Among the artists that contributed toward the animation sequences in this film were Don Bluth, Brad Bird, Tim Burton (Yes, THAT Tim Burton), John Lasseter, Frank Thomas and Olie Johnson (their last film) and many other notable Disney artists. The Fox and the Hound was significant to the Disney animation legacy as it was the bridge between the old studio ways and the films that were to come in the mid 80's through the late 90's during what was considered the Disney Renaissance where a new crop of animators came in and shook Disney up after Don Bluth led his walkout and formed his won company during production of the Fox and the Hound. The Fox and the Hound is a charming story of friendship and was one of the first movies (let alone animated movie) I saw as a child. This sequence shows the friendship between the two main characters and evokes the Disney 'charm" that entertained countless moviegoers throughout the ages. Berman, Rich and Stevens have been attributed as "writers' for this piece as they directed the film and had final say over creative direction. The actual animator and pencil artist responsible for this specific scene is unknown. Social/Sharing |
