This year I have decided I am going to try to commission more Kimono Girls from artists I love. The first two that I decided to commission were Dean Yeagle and Joanne Nam. I have a few others in mind but will just have to wait and see which ones I decide to go with.

I sent Dean an email inquiring about his commission rates at the end of January. I usually let the artist do whatever they want for the piece but since this will probably be my only commission from Dean I decided to ask him if he could have Mandy's cute butt showing. I let him make the call if he wanted to do a full nude or not since I didn't know what would work best for him. I wanted to let him have as much freedom as possible. He emailed me back very quickly with the rates and it was decided that 11x14 would be best for what I wanted. I insisted on paying him a down payment but he reluctantly agreed saying he usually only accepts payment when he finishes commissions because of the way he works. He said he always does commissions that inspire him at the moment and mentioned that he has some that were commissioned years ago but he hasn't been inspired enough to do them.

Much to my surprise, he sent a couple of sketches the next day that he said he had drawn that night while watching television. Both sketches were fantastic and I would have been proud to have him do either of them. We both ended up liking the same one so it was decided he would go with it.

I figured it would be at least a month before I heard anymore about the commission giving me time to save up for the rest of the payment I owed. Within 4 days I received an email complete with pictures of the completed piece. I was flabbergasted at how quickly he had knocked the piece out simply because of him mentioning how long his commission list was. I was absolutely speechless. What Dean came up with literally took my breath away when I saw it. I knew the piece was going to be stunning but I had no idea it would be this perfect. He said he wanted to see what he could do with the kimono which is why he had done the piece so quickly. It worked out that Dean understood the situation so after a couple weeks wait I sent the payment and he shipped her out. I made the mistake of not asking about purchasing the 2 sketches during our initial emails and Dean ended up selling the concept that wasn't used. I was hoping to buy it but since it was sold I ended up not purchasing either of the sketches pictured in the additional images.

I adore what Dean came up with. Only Dean can make a piece that is both absolutely adorable and sexy at the same time. The details he included in the kimono are fantastic. I love the look of surprise on her face as if she has just been caught. If I can only have one large Mandy in my collection I am so happy this is it. Dean actually told me that this piece ended up being one of his wife's favorites as well. Just an amazing piece by one of the greatest pin-up artists alive.
