Description***If anyone cares, this is Week 13 of my promised 26 weeks of Spidey postings.Yup, I am still doggedly posting two Spidey pieces per week, based on some kind of unifying theme. Half-way there!!*** This week we have two great covers penciled & inked by Mike Deodato Jr, artist supreme and all-around great guy. "Spider-Men" was a really fun five-issue miniseries featuring Peter Parker (the original Spider-Man and current Amazing Spider-Man) and Miles Morales (the 2nd Ultimate Spider-Man and current Marvel Universe Spider-Man), who met & interacted together in a crossover story line that involved the two alternate universes from which they each originated. It was a super cool story back then -- full of adventure and emotionally charged family scenes -- but in light of what has happened since, this 1st meet seems even more significant in that Peter Parker and Miles Morales are now consistently crossing paths and having adventures together. Plus, I am a HUGE Miles Morales fan, so I am SO thrilled that he has found such a significant place in the current post-Secret-Wars Marvel Universe. I was drawn to this cover because of how it artistically brings home the idea of two Spider-Men reaching out to each other from their respective worlds and timelines. And hey, I love everything that Mike Deodato draws. Social/Sharing |

Michaelangelo would smile ;) Obviously this homage is timeless. The layouts are so simple, which normally wouldn't be something I'm drawn to, but I really like how the focus is on these two monumental characters. All seems to feel like a "passing of the torch". Just a real special piece seeing these two together, Pablo. Congrats!!

Love this tonal piece from Deodato, and the aspect of them reaching out to one another from across their respective realms, as you touched on, is just icing!

This is GORGEOUS work, Paul, filled with texture, craft, and shading that belies the elegant, "simple" layout. Deodato is a unique, visionary talent, and this is a special cover from a special project with some real historic significance. Lovely! Bravo! Congratulations! :)

Oh, yes - ABSOLUTELY. The mirror/reflection theme is taken to the next level by Mike here. A superb composition which uses the simple, fantastic design elements of the bricks and ledge of a building to construct the illusion of the reflecting pool that Peter can gaze into... The rich washes of the costumes stand out in bold (and literal) counterpoint to the monochromatic bricks and open air. Phenomenal work by Mike here, Paul! Spiderversity is in session! Outstanding pick up!
