DescriptionDagwood Bumstead's very wealthy parents not only forbade him to marry Blondie, due to her low station in society, they actually arranged for their only child to marry an appropriate bride, Irma. In my opinion many of these pre-marriage story lines were not much more than filler/fluff, but when Alex Raymond was ghosting the art on the strip, as here, most strips of this period are absolutely gorgeous to behold. The wedding panel of the ultimately aborted wedding of Dagwood and Irma is much more striking in its art than the very important strip a year later which featured the wedding of Blondie and Dagwood. I have often wondered if Chic Young decided to draw that strip himself rather than have Raymond ghost for him, as Raymond had clearly done on the hunger strike sequence and many other Blondie strips since 1931.Social/Sharing |
