DescriptionMost fans (including myself) are not thrilled with just a head shot. I decided if i were to do this...to arc Hulk's head back a bit and to include the claw to insight curiosity without showing either full figure. I chose to design the "claw" as a thin "knuckle-y" thing to have the feeling of a spider crawling across ones face. Of all the aspects of this cover, the inside of the Hulks mouth was the oddest part...not sure i pulled it off that well.Social/Sharing |

Your style is so unique and distinctive and given even more depth when you ink your work. Awesome. Bravo!

Thanks J, Inking the covers was so fun. I only wish I had the time to ink the interiors...like perhaps a YEAR! After all these years, I still can't imagine how the wonderful inkers out there did an issue a month.

My favorite cover of the era. I look at this and I am trasported back to my early days of collecting. Its a beautiful image and instant mental time machine staring at this emotionally charged cover. Thank you for sharing.

Totally agree with your thoughts on "head shot" covers. Great job of adding interest to this one

I must be the exception. If done well (like this one is), a good head shot shows a level of expression and emotion that can't always be accomplished at a smaller scale. I love a good head shot and this one is up there as one of the best. I even have a themed gallery of Hulk head shots based from the famous poster in the 80's ... it captured rage so well I have had it replicated many times. Kudos on a great cover - love it!

Wow it's great seeing this posted, and by the ar-teest no less! This was one of my favorite Hulk issues when I was kid. The art was great and the story was kinda quirky...but that's what I liked about it. Definitely an off the beaten path Hulk story. Great cover, definitely does what it's supposed to do - get you to pick the book up and open it up! Thanks for posting!

Your comment flashed me back to when i was in 3rd grade when I first "picked up a book and opened it up"…like stepping into a whole new world. Jeff

Headshots done right are some of the best covers out there. It's a true test of the artist's command of detail and facial expression. You did an excellent job!

The head shot is great, and quite horrific. What's the background, ink wash with whiteout spatter? You pulled the mouth off, altho I don't want more detail into the Hulk's mouth! His whole oral/dental health situation is surprisingly good tho. Any turns for the worse and it might be verging on horror for me.
