I'm really not sure why, but I'm drawn to pieces of original comic art from Action Comics Weekly, an anthology incarnation of DC's long-running, iconic title. This is the third I've added to my collection (the other two are in my Other DC Team Titles gallery).

The Blackhawk feature in ACW flowed from the three-issue, prestige-format Blackhawk limited series by Howard Chaykin. As such, one can readily see how penciller Rick Burchett and inker Pablo Marcos endeavored to ape Chaykin's style here. One can also tell that writer Mike Grell chose to include a somewhat bawdy tone, a la Chaykin as well.

This vintage board boasts some whiteout corrections, mainly in the dialogue balloon in Panel 2 and in Panel 5 to cover what I assume is an ink smudge. While the number in the lower right corner indicates this was Page 7 of the eight-page segment in this issue, it was Page 47 in the comic as a whole, as denoted at the upper right corner.

The reverse side boasts a copyright stamp, typical for the era, but there's another stamp as well, with the inker's name in all caps. I assume that's there to ensure the page got returned to the right artist.
