Description

Great hilarious mid-1940’s Hawkshaw the Detective Sunday by the brilliant Gus Mager. Hawkshaw was a take-off of the legendary Sherlock Holmes, and featured Hawkshaw and his assistant Watso taking on various (generally ridiculous) cases. A Golden Age companion strip to The Captain and the Kids, it stands on it’s own as a classic. Mager signed the strip as "Watso," Hawkshaw's sidekick, which I think is both a nod to the Sherlock Holmes stories being credited as being written by Dr. Watson (Sherlock’s sidekick), and also an alias he had used while drawing a strip for another syndicate besides United Features Syndicate. Has a small 1" tear near the top middle edge which is taped on the back, and some general wear to be expected for a piece of artwork that is now more than 70 years old, but overall in very good condition. The right-side border got cut off in the scan, but the actual piece is not cut at the right edge. Nice large piece measuring approximately 15" by 23". A definite classic!
