Description

Peanuts certainly deserves to be cited in the top 3 comic strips of all time-- in fact it's either Peanuts or Krazy Kat at the top! This 1959 Sunday is a particularly fine example, as the wordless narrative gives the piece a pantomime quality that is impossible to pull off in less skilled hands. Schulz was a genius of comics as pop culture expression and also as ART...Peanuts was a source of daily pleasure in my youth...and to millions of others too, around the world. I am thrilled to own such a nice example, and 1959 vintage, too!

Sunday Peanuts are no small thing. Love how Lucy processes her devious behavior than gives in to naughty completely.

Such a perfect snapshot of my two favorite Peanuts characters--and from my favorite period of Schulz's art, with his more controlled linework. Beautiful and funny--congrats!

Love it! Schulz's style was just so much more expressive in the 50s.

I think you are right Todd! By this point in the strip the characters had the classic 'look' but are very expressive as you say-- later on it was more verbal play and less visual perhaps?

Aside from the timeless artistic mastery on display, it is laugh-out-loud funny.

I love Peanuts strips from the 1950s. There is a simplicity and a naivete to the humor that really strikes home for me. Love this Sunday because, instead of doing the usually schtick of having Lucy yell, Schulz opts for the quiet humor of doing the gag in pantomine. Brilliant in concept and execution, IMHO.
