Description

When I first spied Tan Eng Huat's artwork on one of DC's many short-lived Doom Patrol relaunches a few years ago, I was struck by his unique style. His elongated style and hyper-detailed but cartoony faces really popped off the page. He remains active in the North American comics market today, but his popularity never really took off as I expected it. I think it's clear DC, early on, felt he showed a lot of promise as well, as evident by the fact that it tapped him for an arc on JLA. This page is from that stint.

I got this for a great price on eBay not long ago, and I loved what I say in the online listing. It was clear immediately that Huat's style suits Plastic Man perfectly. I love the globe form he takes in the first panel, which Huat conveys adeptly, even in black and white. And the Alfred E. Newman "cameo," courtesy of Plas's powers and personality, was the icing on the cake.

When I finally received the page, I was a bit disappointed to discover there was some faint brown staining on several spots on the front of the board. They weren't visible on the eBay listing scan, nor can one see them on my scan shown here. Fortunately, the seller, while surprised to learn there was a problem, was accommodating and offered a mutually agreed-upon resolution. No complaints about the transaction here.
