Description

A quiet but incredible page from Thor by Olivier Coipel & Smith.

No Thor here but a great Surfer discussing theology and trying to understand the human condition with a disgruntled priest. Coipel�s iteration of the Surfer has been not shot of fantastic in my view. Incorporating his feet to the board seemed obvious but it�s such a great touch. Here he looks so alien, in the first sublime panel, hidden in shadows, a bit dangerous. The fact that his board his hovering slightly over the ground accentuates this alien feeling and the distance with the priest and his humanity.

Simply put, the mood in this page makes it a pure gem of storytelling. Plus you get backgrounds from Olivier who has been accused of shorting in that department.

I like Oliver�s Thor as much as anyone else but his Silver Surfer I can�t get enough of as this very gallery attests.

Yes. Stunning Silver Surfer Storytelling here, after all the dust has settled and the more important questions can be addressed. Coipel's is the best Silver Surfer; after countless others had drawn the character brilliantly and beautifully before him, Olivier still was able to introduce him to us in a new an striking way that I finds has redefined my perception (or visual expectation?) of what the character is and should be. Love his feet fused to the board - as you say, a simple and "obvious" touch that stresses the alien among us. Brilliant. Gorgeous page, F M!
