DescriptionAlan Moore created two different pastiches of the Justice League in some of his non DC writing, the Allied Supermen of America in his "Extreme Studios" writing, and the Seven Sentinels in "Top 10." The Allied Supermen included Rob Liefeld's Supreme and Glory while the Seven Sentinels were mostly original. The difference between them is that the Allied Supermen were more straightforward heroes while the Seven Sentinels were secretly a ring of child molesters who'd been abusing their sidekicks and children for years. It was supposed to be some kind of shallow deconstruction on the whole child sidekick thing. The last arc of the main Top 10 series featured the Sentinels being exposed for their crimes, and the Superman expy is tricked into killing himself since he'll most likely outlive his prison sentence. So as a sex abuse survivor I came up with the idea of starting a series of commissions based on the two JLA teams fighting each other, with the Allied Supermen characters kicking the crap out of the Sentinels.Alley Cat was from the Allied Supermen and was some kind of blend of Black Canary and Catwoman, so I pit her up against the Hound, who was one of two different Batman pastiches in the Sentinels (I think, I'm not sure if Kingfisher's supposed to be a Batman or Hawkman but he had a Robin-like sidekick). Plus the whole cats and dogs thing made it a natural choice. The poses there in comes from one of my favorite scenes in American Dad, where Francine Smith imagines what'll happen if she tells Stan she's become a surrogate for their gay neighbors. First he threatens her with a broken glass, then takes out a chainsaw, then takes out a jaguar, then he threatens her with the jaguar holding the chainsaw. The little graffiti in the background, "Cir-El did nothing wrong," is a shot out to my good friend Andreas. I swear I love the coloring and the detailing Misha put into this. It's gorgeous and a testament to her abilities as an artist. Social/Sharing |
