DescriptionJust saw the movie X-Men: Apocalypse and with a giant nuclear blast in the background, this cover reminds me of the movie - and much more. And what's not to love about the massive energy release on this cover - and a giant skull (maybe I'm too fond of skull covers, sigh ;-)More info about the cover: The X-Men take on Kaga on this powerful cover art drawn by the dynamic Phil Jimenez. As always, Jimenez does not skimp on the details. The piece features six X-Men: Wolverine, Cyclops, Beast, Storm, Emma Frost & Armor in battle with Kaga, a new villain who was an unborn child when the atomic bomb fell on Hiroshima. His mother survived, only for him to born deformed. Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby for X-Men #1 (1963), the X-Men became the biggest superstars in the comic book world following their 1975 revival starting in Giant-size X-Men #1. They completely dominated the 80s and 90s and became household names with a highly popular series of movies that began in 2000 and continues to this day. The newest X-Men film, Logan, opens March 3rd and featured an aged Wolverine and Professor X in the near future, played once again by Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart, training a young X-23. Phil Jimenez is acclaimed for his work with Grant Morrison on New X-Men as well as his work at DC on Wonder Woman and Infinite Crisis. He's known for the incredible amount of detail he puts into his drawings. The Astonishing X-Men #35 book contains the conclusion to the eXogenetic story. The full eXogenetic story has been collected in the Astonishing X-Men: Exogenetic TPB & HC books, I've added an additional image of the TPB. Note that there's no big skull in the story, thus the skull on the cover symbolizes death - or the X-Men being in extreme danger and pain. The art has an approximate image area of 10" X 15". The images of Wolverine and the upper torso and face of Emma Frost are original art drawn on new and smaller pieces of paper, which then were pasted over original art. I'm guessing Jimenez wanted to improve Wolverine and Frost (or the editor ordered Jimenez to do that?), and Jimenez simply drew new versions and pasted these on the board (thus these images are not stats but have original pencils and ink). Sweet Jimenez cover, Rune! Lots of X-characters and yes, that center skull is pretty cool! Nice layout overall. Congrats!

Jimenez is the best! My very first art piece was a Jimenez interior! Beautiful cover that shows why he's a legend amongst pencils! Having pasted pieces inside the art isnt so bad either!
