Description

This production page which is the second page after the completion of the comic story prior to the letters page caught my attention as it defines the exact moment I started reading and collecting Marvel comics all those years ago; a real magic time for me. It also sits in a comic drawn by Jolly Jack Kirby who was approaching the peak of his powers (in my humble opinion), but poorly inked by Vinnie Colletta (again in my humble opinion), an inker who was very wrong for this title, who could produce beautiful work over much of Kirby's pencils in Journey Into Mystery :Thor (when he wasn't erasing building details or reducing figures on the original page). With this page we get cover artwork stats from Jack Kirby, Gene Colan & Dick Ayers, all 'heavy hitters' from Marvel's Silver Age and I presume lettering by Sam Rosen.
I should add that I loved looking at these pages to see covers to comics coming out that month; it really fed the frenzy and a great visual advertising wedge. I wont say whether I cut these images out at the time from the cherished comic...did you?
Another interesting point to note is the image of Journey into Mystery Annual #1 appeared a second time in this comic; a boo boo or a greater need to push this comic?
