I wish Wilson had done more strips in this clear-line style. His usual dirty rendering and dirtier content can overshadow his uncanny narrative ease and perfectly expressive cartooning. I think this is one of the most beautifully drawn pages in my collection. Formerly in the collection of Graham Nash!

He was an artist I could appreciate on an artistic level but whose over-the-top storytelling often left me behind. However, this page, though still subversive, seems more accessible to me. (Also, to touch on something in your description, I think that I would have liked to have been in the room when Graham Nash acquired this page.)
