Description

A completely unexpected arrival in my inbox for Christmas morning - the final inked version of this imaginary "All-Star Squadron: The 1940s Handbook" from Chris Ivy. As you can imagine, if I have any say in the matter, this won't be last thing Chris will be doing for me as I think this is absolutely gorgeous.

Just for clarity - there's no Earth 2 Flash or Green Lantern here because I wanted to highlight the late-1941/early-1942 membership of the Justice Society, from the time of the founding of the All-Star Squadron, hence including Starman, Dr Mid-Nite, Johnny Thunder and his Thunderbolt, and then-secretary Wonder Woman --- but yes, Sandman is technically in an earlier costume, just because I like it.

This also features what I see as the 'core' All-Stars (Johnny Quick, Liberty Belle, Robotman, Commander Steel, Firebrand, Tarantula) and founder members Plastic Man and the Shining Knight --- and Wildcat and the Guardian were added largely because they fit the remaining characters.

As always, a few of the character substitutions were placed where they are simply because they made me chuckle (Dr Mid-Nite for Cyclops, both having eye-related powers; Doctor Fate for Doctor Strange; and the fin-on-his-head Starman for the fin-on-his-head man literally from the stars, the Kree Captain Marvel). Hey, I'm easily amused....
