DescriptionNot much need be said about Jeffrey Catherine Jones, one of the great artists of the last fifty years and an inspiration to many. Anyone who has tried their hand at life drawing (among other artistic disciplines) stands in awe of Jones.I'll admit that I initially purchased this Profile Portrait of a Young Woman as kind of a place holder until I could find (and afford) one of Jones' "Idyl" pages (fondly remembered from my dad's National Lampoon magazines from '72-76), or an example of "I'm Age" from Heavy Metal ('81-87). I printed a copy of this image from the auction listing and tacked it to a post near my drawing board for inspiration at life drawing sessions. I had a couple weeks to get used to the drawing prior to receiving the original in the mail, and didn't expect to be all that moved when the package arrived. Man, was I wrong! Jeffrey Catherine Jones is the real deal. In person, this drawing has a lyrical, expressive quality that we lesser artists strive for but seldom achieve. Jones' line just radiates feeling and energy, and it was impossible not to respond to, and be affected by it. I believe that art is the result of effort and discipline and not inborn ability. But if anyone can challenge me to accept the "gifted" designation, it might be Jeffrey Catherine Jones. Would that a crown were a cure for a headache. Social/Sharing |

What a lovely portrait! Jones's lines are unmistakable, as is the mood in all of her pieces. Doesn't matter if it's a loose drawing of a young woman's face or an oil of vikings with swords raised --- there is always a somber, but powerful vibe to her work.
