DescriptionInspired by one of my favorite SF books (Tiger! Tiger! by Alfred Bester), this piece by John is incredible -- using thick texturing and mixed media with oils to articulate the asteroid features. Just brilliant. An enhanced version of this piece was also used for the book cover "Provenance" by Ann Leckie. 36 x 26 Social/Sharing |

Outstanding painting! This combines the best of Harris's early SF illustration with his more recent fine art imagery. Such a great feel to this --- atmospheric and super solid

I totally agree! It also incorporates the impasto technique he uses on his fine art "History of Earth" series... the first time I have seen him use this technique on one of his space paintings. The effect is really quite stunning seen in person (and lit properly).

One of my most loved of all John Harris' works! What a great piece to cherish! Congrats on this masterpiece! I love how he rendered the exhaust of the incoming spacecraft. That always stuck with me on this piece. That and the debris cloud from the massive ship in the background.
