Description

Early 80s might be my favorite era of Toth. I remember poring over these digest-sized Adventure mags when I was a teen. I love Giacoia in general, and his line weights are pretty spectacular here, but overall his line is too stolid and corrective for the nimble, improvisational drawing style Toth was rocking. As for Toth's daring layout, it doesn't quite work, but better to try and fail than submit to the tyranny of the grid!

All in all, a grand experiment that soars higher in its foundering than most pages do in their predictable, pedestrian success.
