Description

Latest All-Star Squadron continuation commission, based on the cover of the Roy Thomas-written Invaders #5, drawn by Matthew Childers. It's a bit more stylised than previous covers, but I still think it's a nice homage to the original Kirby work. I'm afraid I don't have any work-in-progress material to share, because Matthew went straight to inks.

In plot terms - following the events of All-Star Squadron Annual #4, the All-Stars take some time to recover, with four of the team supporting a war bond rally, only to be confronted by a giant image of Baron Blitzkrieg. As they try to combat him, four of their team-mates are separately attacked by shadowy figures, but the astute reader may be able to glean some of their identities - Robotman is captured by a giant snake, Amazing Man is felled by an axe-wielding figure, and Doll Man and REDACTED are knocked unconscious by a supersonic wall of air.

Superman, Firebrand, Sandman and Sandy realise that they're unable to capture the Baron, and his final words as his images fades are to announce that he and his allies will kill the captured heroes before the day is out!

Next issue - the identities of the villains revealed! A desperate hunt for the missing All-Stars! And a fight to the finish! All coming in issue #79 (which is out with an artist as I type).
