Description"Br'er Rabbit he go prancin' LIPPITY CLIPPITY down the road, sassy as a mockin' bird and laffin' an laffin' till he can't laff no more." - Song of the South premiered 11/12/46 at the Fox Theater in downtown Atlanta. This grand opening was a big event for both Walt Disney Studios as well as for the city of Atlanta. A little over a week before, Disney artists Fred Moore (1911-1952) and Dick Mitchell, along with production experts Frank Bresson and Clarence Nash (voice of Donald Duck), opened a pop-up art studio at the Belle Isle Arcade. This exhibit had Moore and Mitchell drawing for visitors and a major Disney display with animation demonstrations, animation art, and showings of The Reluctant Dragon which featured "Behind the Scenes at Disney Studios." It drew thousands. The grandson of the man who rented the space to Walt Disney Studios was personally brought by Walt Disney to Fred Moore, who he asked to draw up something special for the twelve-year-old boy. This is the original ink and gouache painting of Br'er Rabbit that Fred Moore drew that day. Moore was a top animator at Disney, famed for his "Freddie Moore Girls," a (posthumous) Disney Legend Inductee in 1995 and the animation industry's Windsor McCay award in 1983. It's a stunning 10" tall image of Br'er Rabbit, framed with a mat opening of 13.5" x 9.5", in a 22" x 18" frame. This is a very special one-of-a-kind piece! - Story and photo courtesy Heritage Animation Art Auction.Social/Sharing |
