DescriptionAnother amazing page 1 from my first fist full of Avengers back in 1974. As an 11 year old it was disappointing that John Buscema didn't do the art for this issue (I bought them out of order and Big John was an early favorite) but I loved the Zodiac as a villain group and I have grown to appreciate Brown's art as an adult. Interesting that Don Heck got inking credits yet Frank Giacoia dedicated the page??As my buddy Mike Finn owns the cover to this issue I figured this is the next best thing. Here is HA's description: Bob Brown and Don Heck Avengers #120 Splash Page 1 Original Art (Marvel, 1974). This title/splash page for the Steve Englehart story "Death-Stars of the Zodiac" features the Vision, the Swordsman, Iron Man, Thor, and the Scarlet Witch as they face off against Taurus (Cornelius Van Lunt) and his Zodiac of crime. The page was produced in ink over blue pencils on Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 13.5". The header paste-up strip is missing, leaving glue residue behind. The toned page has production oil stains. The page is signed by Frank Giacoia in the top margin (Giacoia inked the cover for this issue). In Very Good condition. Social/Sharing |

Classic. Love Bronze Age Avengers (that's what I grew up with).

great page! in general, i thought that heck's inks around this time period were very scratchy looking and i was very disappointed in the art as i was buying these as back issues (my first book was 124) and was really liking what the current team (buscema/cockrum and brown/cockrum) were doing. having said that, this particular page looks fantastic and i also liked the zodiac arc, with a lot of the focus being on libra (i am a libra, like kirk is!)

My favorite Bob Brown issues were of course the Avengers VS Defenders crossover. And although as I kid I might have wished those issues were drawn by any of my favorite Marvel artists of the time, like you, I have grown to appreciate Brown's work over time. Loved the Zodiac as well, and this splash is about as good as it gets featuring them.
