Description

Farmyard chickens are fooled by poultry fancier Foxy Loxy into thinking the sky is falling. Foxy Loxy tells Chicken Little, dim-witted yo-yo champ,that he is a born leader. Instilled with confidence, he leads others to a cave where they are devoured by Foxy Loxy. The special short was released 12-17-43. It was a government contracted anti-Nazi propaganda film, with the moral to think for yourself, don't listen to gossip or it will spell your doom.
The book however has a more happy ending with the story appearing in "Walt Disney's Surprise Package", New York, Simon and Shuster, 1944. This 12"x 5.25" painting on board appears on page 40 of the book. Here we see Foxy Loxy as he picks out Chicken Little as his stupid stooge. Charles Philippi who was in charge of layout for the short is my guess for the artist. Early Joe Grant's drawings appear in a 1943 issue of Coronet Magazine. The Grant and Huemer story was adapted from old European folk tales.
