Description

Painting from the series �Hidden Suns and the City of Fire�. Published in the book �The Art of John Harris: Beyond the Horizon�, by Titan Books, 2014.

Painting is 42" x 33". I think this is the largest painting he did in this series.

The broken end of the bridge actually appears to protrude from the painting when you see it in person.

We first saw paintings and pastel preliminaries of John�s Hidden Sun series at IX in 2013. He talked with us quite a while telling us the whole story behind the Hidden Sun series. We loved the lighting, composition and scale he created in those works, and after leaving, we kept thinking about our conversation and all the images. We were particularly taken with this image and the one titled Bridge of Cotl. Several months later we decided we really wanted to try to purchase one of those paintings, if they were even still available, so we contacted him through his agent. It turned out that he did still have these paintings, but they were some of the largest in the series (and therefore more expensive), and these particular ones were very special to him; they had been hanging in his home for many years. After contacting John, his agent explained to us that he wouldn�t part with Bridge of Cotl, but after some thought he agreed to sell The Threshold. We were delighted, and mentioned that if he ever decided to sell Bridge of Cotl that we would be interested. We were completely surprised that only a couple months after acquiring Threshold, he generously offer to sell Bridge of Cotl to us. So now we have filled a very large John Harris wall!
