I�ve loved the magical art of Rod Luff ever since I first discovered it back in 2012. The first piece I fell in love with was �Owl Song� but it was already sold. I ended up commissioning a Kimono Girl which Rod titled "Serenade" and I�ve been a fan ever since. Last November I received an email about Rod's solo show at Beinart and it mentioned he was from Sydney, Australia. How I had forgotten that I�ll never know but since Sass Kia is from Sydney I decided to mention it to her knowing that Rod uses models as reference as well as the fact I knew she would love his art. Well she ended up following him on Instagram and liking some of his posts. Rod contacted her about shooting in a matter of days. My diabolical scheme had worked perfectly. Mwahaha Once Sass told me, I decided to email Rod and let him know I would love to purchase a painting of Sass. Well I ended up commissioning a painting right then and there and Rod ended up using some of the payment to pay for his shoot with Sass. To me it doesn�t get any better than supporting two amazing artists I love at once. I connected these two awesome individuals at just the right time because within a month Rod was moving to the U.S. It took longer then expected for Rod to get his work permit and his solo show was moved up earlier next year so he hasn�t had time to work on the commission but I have loved seeing the pieces he has created from Sass� reference shoot and can�t wait for him to work on my special piece next year.

On Thanksgiving Day Rod emailed his newsletter subscribers about a 50% off sale he was having in his shop. I immediately knew I was purchasing this amazing Prelim which I had fallen in love with when he added it to the shop. I love Rod�s deer and had been wanting one but didn't feel it would fit with the commission since we already have special plans for that piece. The details on the deer and rock are just so fantastic. Of course a piece by him wouldn�t be complete without some owls and it is just magical how these cute little guys are nesting in the antlers. He always gives them so much character and life. It's just amazing. To top it all off this piece just so happens to have one of my favorite shots of Sass. Rod has been shared a lot of the reference shots with me and there were so many that I loved it was hard to narrow down. This one was in the running but we ruled it out for my piece so I couldn't be happier to have this beautifully serene shot even if it is only a drawing. The owl flying in to land on Sass' hand is the perfect way to tie the whole concept together. I can't wait to see the full painting that this piece is the prelim for. I know it's going to be gorgeous as are all of the pieces that he has painted of Sass so far. I know it means a lot to Sass to be able to collaborate with amazing artists like Rod as well as be immortalized in the work. It makes me so happy I can make those dreams come true for her as well as be able to enjoy the work in my own collection. This beauty will definitely tide me over until I get my painting but I am really looking forward to finally having a painting by Rod. I'm thrilled to have yet another one of Rod�s breathtaking pieces.
