DescriptionI finally own a cover from Scion, probably my favorite Crossgen title which is essentially due to Jim’s incredible art and progression on the book.I won’t lie either, this is not my top favorite Scion cover but it is a very strong one nonetheless. It features the main “villain” of the serie, Bron in a meditative or depressive state. I love his strong massive figure, long before crossfit training or hipster looks were all the rage. The forest, cascade and lake surroundings really add something to the piece, especially in an age of covers essentially composed of money shots without any backgrounds or relation to the actual story inside the book (don’t you hate those? I don’t but MUCH prefer when the cover is a part of the storytelling element). I mean, this cover, if you cared about the serie told you something about an important character and picked your curiosity. Why does he look so washed up? What is he doing there? And the details on all the faces (a la Perez) of the court and all the little droplets of water on and around Bron. Let’s not forget the incredible inks by Hillsman which perfectly complemented Jim’s pencils. You'll have to agree that it looks MUCH better in b&w than the coloured version (no offense meant to the colorist but...). Then the composition itself. Like my Mystic cover by Brandon Peterson, I really like the verticality here. Simple but strong. I also find that the fact that the bottom of the two left and right columns fade in white nicely counter balances the darker bottom of the center one. A great cover from a great title by its titular art team. This is my second posting of my 2019 CAF b-day celebration. Social/Sharing |

You can tell both Cheung and Hillsman both spent some time on this one! Very effective cover image. Congrats!

Fantastic. Always great when the arch villain gets a little spotlight. Loved how Cheung constructed these covers. There is a bit of Perez in his cover layouts.
Thanks for sharing.
