DescriptionI guess Jippes made this as a nice homage to Carl Barks' legendary "Back to the Klondike" story, please see the additional photo, I took Barks' page there to compare.... and it looks I wasn't badly wrong ;-) Got this info from Jippes: "I wanted to show that even a legendary little town like Skagway in the Klondike evolved into the present (showing a Starbucks, modern street life, bums, pickpockets, skateboarders and the like; and eternal construction all around), as present- day old Scrooge returns there to prove himself he`s got the good old`mettle still in his veins. The TRUE inputs to do this kind of story was to revive that kind of setting for a new -albeit short- Scrooge story. Before deciding on a theme for the story. (and then coming up with the action and logical conclusion)." What I really like in Jippes' artwork, besides he can adopt and draw Ducks like Carl Barks did, he also left the blue pencil lines into his artwork. The sketch is visible, it looks much better than the plain finished inking would look. And those blue lines are disappearing anyway in printing process. But here blue lines are creating nice depth into the artwork. Another additional photo presenting the original artwork next to a printed comic book page from Aku Ankka 2008:43, from Finland; a special issue dedicated for Daan Jippes & Freddy Milton, once they visited then in Finland. And from their visit having another nice memory / drawing: https://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?Piece=1542744 Published in 14 countries, see the details: https://inducks.org/story.php?c=D+2007-240 Social/Sharing |
